Willoughby Type101 Barbican . The Brief

Willoughby House Type 101 corner two bedroom low rise flat The client could not wait to remove the dark blue tiles, corner shower, vanity unit and ugly bath fittings. Her brief was to:

To open up the space with soft colouring.

Build a white, handleless kitchen.

All appliances to be by Miele.

To incorporate a laundry area into the design.

Wall hung units installed at ceiling level in the opening to the reception.

Granite worktops and glass splashbacks.

Dark flooring.

The Result

The renovation was completed in two stages, first the bathroom and then the kitchen.

For the bathroom, we selected a pale 600 x 300mm tile with a linear brushed effect, suitable for all surfaces. Storage was an important factor : so we designed a bespoke wall hung drawer unit. The attractive Scarabeo basins, Crosswater taps and Astro illuminated mirror set the scene. The Bette bath with Hansgrohe shower set and Majestic frameless screen complete the mood.

In order to achieve a fairly seamless design in the kitchen we looked at installing a large pocket door to hide the appliances but the cost was prohibitive. We finally decided that a wide custom silver tambour door system would be the best option, allowing the appliances to be stacked and still allow for storage room above. To maintain balance in the design, we installed a tall fridge freezer and a larder pull out unit on the opposite side. The result is a modern kitchen with clean symmetrical lines showcasing the selection of Miele products.
